1. Is the Shore Handwriting Screening standardized with normative data?
No, the SHS is an assessment tool used diagnositcally to determine the possible causes of handwriting disorders. Age norms for skills associated with handwriting development are listed in the Examiner's Manual.

2.What age group can the SHS be used with?
The SHS is most appropriately used for testing early handwriting development; therefore, children from 3 to 8 years old or preschool to third grade. The SHS tests only the manuscript alphabet.

3. Does the SHS require parental consent to use?
Yes, the SHS is considered a "hands on" tool where direct time is spent with the student. The Examiner's Manual includes copies of both the Notice of an Educational Assessment and Procedural Safeguards for parent rights.

4. Is there special training required to use the SHS?
Yes, the SHS is intended to be given by occupational therapists who have training and background in development.

5. How long does it take to give the SHS?
The SHS should take 15 to 20 minutes to administer.
